there is a line that people use to separate the land from the sea but it never lines up, 2022, glazed ceramic, cyanotype on silk, door hinge.

While shaping this clay, I was thinking about the lines and overlapping marks of assumptions that humans often make, discomfort in dichotomies of language and perception, & the sea’s refusal to be stagnant and delineated.

there is a line that people use to separate the land from the sea but it never lines up installed as a part of FEELING LANGUAGE at the NIAD Art Center, 2022.

The cyanotype page is translucent, but it has to be turned in order for the carved line of text to be fully readable, stating “there is a line that people use to separate the land from the sea but it never lines up”. On the silk page, I sunprinted hands fingerspelling the word “sea” in American Sign Language.
